Role Overview:
Senior Autonomy System Engineer will lead the solution of complex problems facing vehicle autonomy while designing future autonomy systems and resolving critical system issues. This position involves comprehensive understanding of integrated autonomy systems and provides technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
Location:
Ann Arbor, Michigan with minimal travel requirements (1-10%).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead comprehensive understanding of vehicle architecture including hardware, software, networking, and system configurations
- Find and permanently solve challenging system-level issues caused by interplay between software and hardware components
- Troubleshoot and support solutions to challenging field issues in autonomous vehicle deployments
- Design, build, and maintain autonomy system architecture and cross-functional autonomy components
- Assess and develop approaches that improve system performance including CPU, memory, disk, and network usage
- Improve system robustness to address stochastic and transient issues impacting vehicle performance
- Support other autonomy engineers in designing and integrating components with full system architecture
- Collaborate and lead system-wide improvements across teams without direct management responsibility
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in autonomous robotics system engineering with broad focus across multiple robot components
- Strong programming skills in C/C++ with experience taking systems through full product lifecycle
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or applied engineering field
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and analytic skills at system and subsystem levels
- Effective communication abilities for complex system behaviors and technical issues
- Experience with autonomous vehicles and startup or high-performance R&D environments preferred
- 10+ years autonomous robotics experience and Master's or PhD degree preferred
Compensation & Benefits:
$160,000 - $200,000 annually
