About Swiftly: Swiftly is the leading transit data platform helping cities move more efficiently. Over 180 transit agencies in 11 countries – including LA Metro, MARTA, SEPTA, and MBTA – rely on Swiftly to improve on-time performance by up to 40% and increase passenger information accuracy by up to 50%. We provide real-time passenger information, day-to-day operations management, and service performance improvement tools.

Role Overview: You will lead a cross-functional product team enabling transit agency customers to operate and manage on-vehicle embedded and IoT hardware devices. This player/coach role spans cloud-native services interfacing with Swiftly's core data engine through messaging brokers to devices running onboard public transit buses, trains, and ferries. You'll balance hands-on technical contributions with people management responsibilities.

Location: Hybrid role based in downtown San Francisco (3 days per week in office on average, 2-3x per year travel for customer site visits)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Engineers and Product Manager to understand customer needs, define impactful solutions, and deliver valuable products to market
  • Contribute to products hands-on while serving as technical mentor and partner
  • Ensure team balances technical excellence and quality with rapid delivery as products evolve from early stage to scale
  • Maintain physical hardware lab in the office for testing and development
  • Help define and refine onboard architecture and implementation processes through customer site visits and partner collaboration
  • Manage team members with focus on enabling supportive, inclusive, growth-oriented, and outcome-focused culture
  • Create environment where direct reports are proud to work at Swiftly, measured by employee retention and satisfaction scores
  • Seek feedback and share progress, learnings, and blockers cross-functionally
  • Facilitate discovery and delivery of product functionality through continuous learning and iterative de-risking

Qualifications:

  • Experience in team leadership and people management with excitement to balance those responsibilities with hands-on technical contributions
  • Experience ensuring effective delivery of complete solutions, preferably including embedded hardware in the field
  • Experience building software to interface with cloud and edge-based (IoT) systems
  • Experience with tech stack including AWS IoT/ECS/ECR, MQTT, Postgres, Java, Python, Docker, Linux (preferred)
  • Experience building real-time systems (socket communication, pub/sub systems, etc.)
  • Team-first, empowering approach enabling each team member to make impact on team goals

Compensation & Benefits: $180,000 - $230,000 base salary + stock options Medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with employer match, FSA, home office setup reimbursement, monthly cell/internet reimbursement, monthly "Be Well" stipend, flexible PTO with recommended minimum, 16 paid holidays, and 8 fully paid weeks of parental leave.
