Role Overview: You will be responsible for developing end-to-end systems for one of Nava's major government partners as a Sr. Software Engineer. The objective is to modernize an existing legacy enterprise platform to improve its public-facing processes and experiences, enabling users to have more access to the programs and services they need in real-time in a more user-friendly and uncomplicated way. You'll be involved in everything from strategy and planning through to post-production testing and support, working on cross-functional teams to build scalable systems that millions of Americans depend on through human-centered design and modern engineering best practices.

Location: Fully remote (must reside in: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, DC, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with fellow Nava engineers to design, review, and build well-crafted software
  • Collaborate with government partners and other contractors to architect, implement, and deploy new systems and improvements to existing systems
  • Work in an agile manner to efficiently ship new features that meet user needs
  • Create tools and processes to automate development, testing, and production workflows
  • Write and review technical documentation, perform code reviews
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems and investigate issues when they occur
  • Take part in hiring activities (submitting referrals, conducting interviews, attending interview debriefs) as needed

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of experience working in agile, multidisciplinary team environment, preferably designing and building medium to large-scale applications on Cloud platforms
  • Experience building web applications with Angular (TypeScript), Storybook, Apache server
  • Experience developing Lambda services and APIs with Java and Go, Spring Boot, Python, Fargate, OpenAPI
  • Experience utilizing AWS cloud native services and data engineering
  • Tenacity to dive into problems and iterate in working code
  • Highly resourceful, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to think strategically around trade-offs and short term vs. long term benefits
  • Adaptive, empathetic, collaborative and positive mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical and otherwise
  • Experience using Apache Spark and Parquet for data engineering preferred
  • Experience with Node.js and Next.js (JavaScript) preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in United States without visa sponsorship
  • May be subject to government background check or security clearance depending on contract
